Saint Francis University is pleased to announce that it has moved into the top 20 listing of the “Best Regional Universities” in the northern United States.
According to U.S. News & World Report's 2018 Best Colleges rankings survey, Saint Francis has jumped 9 spots since 2017, and is now 18th among the 187 universities in the 10-state north region.
The “Best Regional University” survey compares universities that offer a robust selection of both master’s level programs and undergraduate education.
SFU scored exceptionally well on metrics that evaluated the student experience including first-year student retention rates, the percentage of classes under 20 students, a low faculty to student ratio, and high graduation rates.
The University also boasts the highest percentage of alumni giving in the north region which is a strong indicator of post-graduation satisfaction.
“At Saint Francis University we challenge our students to explore their talents to become who they are meant to be. Measuring that type of transformational experience goes far beyond traditional outputs, yet much of the methodology employed by U.S. News in compiling its rankings supports the tangible student outcomes that we are seeing," said University President Fr. Malachi Van Tassell, T.O.R.
One new initiative that the university is using to promote, document, and track student transformations is a co-curricular transcript referred to colloquially as “The L.I.S.T.” The Leadership, Involvement, and Service Transcript (LIST) is an official University document which tracks accomplishments in six areas of Transformational Experiences: campus ministry, community service, leadership experiences, internships, research, and study abroad.
Other recent distinctions for the university include being named a “Best College” by the national financial publication, MONEY, and a “Catholic College of Distinction” and “Pennsylvania College of Distinction” by Colleges of Distinction.
At the program level, The University’s nursing program was named #7 in the state and graduates achieved a 100% first-time NCLEX-RN pass rate for the fourth straight year. The physician assistant science program also boasts a 100% first-time PANCE pass rate for the Class of 2017 as well as 5-year average test scores that exceed the national average.
