Our heart for service comes from the lessons that our patron St. Francis of Assisi himself imparted on us. St. Francis taught us that those have been given much are expected to give back in other ways and improve the society of which they are a part. Guided by Franciscan goals of higher education, in particular the call to serve the poor and needy, a global vision and reverence for all life and for the goodness of humanity, students at Saint Francis University understand what it means to put their faith into action.
The Saint Francis University community has a long tradition of service to both local and distant communities in a wide variety of ways. Some service is the smallest in action but says so much about our core values – the actions we take in class, the way we treat and show respect to one another. Other service is broader in scope and reach. Students, faculty and staff have traveled to places such as Hondorus, Bolivia, and the Dominican Republic for meaningful learning experiences.
Saint Francis students are involved in a wide-array of outreach organizations where kindness and generosity matters. In addition, students engage in community service activities with intentional academic and learning goals and opportunities for reflection that connect to their academic disciplines. At Saint Francis, students will encounter service-learning opportunities across the curriculum. Here a just a few of the countless examples of students in service. If you value offering support to others, giving freely of your talents, and making a social impact, Saint Francis University is the place for you.

The Dorothy Day Outreach Center is a charming little house on campus where staff, students, and volunteers come together in service of those in need. Anyone who seeks help here is greeted with true hospitality. Through the center, we honor our Franciscan values and follow in the footsteps of the center's namesake, Dorothy Day, to provide those who have needs with support, programs, food, clothing and monetary assistance.

Reaching Every Door (R.E.D.) is a day of service in which students go out into the Loretto, Cresson, Ebensburg and surrounding communities to perform work for members of the community. Community members submit work orders which students perform for them on the day of R.E.D. This service event was inspired by Texas A&M's "The Big Event," designed to give back to the community.
